Stroma Certification’s Retrofit Coordinator Scheme

Stroma Certification’s Retrofit Coordinator Certification scheme is approved by TrustMark. It provides certification for Retrofit Coordinators to perform a project management role and produce Retrofit Plans in line with PAS 2035. The PAS 2035: 2019 is the specification for the energy retrofit of domestic buildings. There is considerable excitement in the energy and retrofit markets about this role, as we move towards the government’s intended date of 2050 for a carbon neutral UK and EPC C by 2035.

Stroma are again at the forefront of the transition of ECO3 to adopt PAS 2035. and can assist Coordinator members with queries and questions during the formative stages of the PAS 2035 adoption into ECO3.

If, as an individual, you are at least 75% through your RFC training with the Retrofit Academy, we can certify you. There is then a 3 month period, by which the full qualification must be gained.

Retrofit Coordinator Training

The Coordinator role is the key role within PAS 2035 and acts at the Project Manager as well as performing other roles. The Retrofit Academy have written a course that meets the requirements of the Coordinator Role – offering the Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management. In order to be eligible to register with the Stroma Retrofit Coordinator Certification Scheme, all applicants will need to hold this qualification. The training will allow built environment professionals, to operate as a Retrofit Coordinator.

The Retrofit Coordinator training course, delivered by the Retrofit Academy, is an intensive course that can be gained through eLearning, Blended Learning or Expert-Led Taught Courses. Prices range from £899-£1599 dependent upon your preferred route. Candidates will be assessed by a combination of multiple-choice questions and written assignments. It typically takes 150 hours to complete.

This qualification is aimed at existing built environment professionals with extensive experience and understanding of buildings, construction methods and issues. You will hold existing qualifications in the built environment. You must have the skills already expected of a professional in the building industry, including but not limited to:
• project management including programming and advising on the budget
• assessing and managing technical and procedural risks
• making applications for statutory approvals
• managing a tender process to identify and appoint Retrofit Installer(s)
• negotiating contracts
• ensuring effective communication between teams
• administering contracts
• inspecting work to check progress, quality and compliance
• overseeing testing and commissioning
• overseeing the handover of the project on completion
• adjudicating any disputes
• making defects inspections and arranging any necessary remedial works.
Broadly, this training covers essential skills and knowledge relating to design, assessment and project management of a wide array of domestic refurbishment projects, which will equip candidates with the ability to reduce instances of failures and defects.
